New Master’s programme!

Hooray! Utrecht University has a new master’s programme: Medical Imaging. This new master’s programme starts in September 2017.

EXACT SCIENCE AND CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY IN HEALTHCARE

The field of medical imaging is evolving rapidly, since medical diagnosis and treatment are increasingly supported by imaging procedures. We offer a technology-oriented research master’s programme that prepares for a career in this strongly multidisciplinary field. The programme combines elements from physics, mathematics, computer science, biomedical engineering, biology, and clinical medicine allowing you to attain a high level of knowledge and skills in various areas of medical imaging, such as image acquisition, quantitative image analysis, computer-aided diagnosis, and image-guided interventions.

This new master’s programme will start in September 2017, applications can be sent to Renée Allebrandi. Please include your CV/resume, grades list and a motivation statement.

THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR YOU?

If you have a background in natural or exact sciences, e.g. physics, mathematics, computer science or more applied technical sciences, and an interest in biomedical engineering and technology applied in a clinical setting, then this master’s programme could be the right choice for you! The programme is offered in close collaboration between the Imaging Division of the University Medical Center Utrecht and Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). This collaboration tops a solid technological basis with strong links to research performed in a clinical setting. This allows you not only to learn about state-of-the-art medical imaging technology, but also to actually work with systems from an impressive range of imaging platforms available in the UMC Utrecht.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

As Medical Imaging will attract students with different backgrounds, a broad range of courses is offered to allow you to tailor your study programme to your specific needs and prior knowledge. In the elective part of the curriculum students can refine their knowledge and skills in more specialis ed or advanced topics of their liking. Some topics are taught in Utrecht and others in Eindhoven. The Medical Imaging programme provides you with the knowledge and skills in the fields of imaging physics and image analysis required for a career in the fascinating world of medical imaging research and technology development.

WHY STUDY MEDICAL IMAGING AT UTRECHT UNIVERSITY?

  • We offer a strongly technology-oriented MSc programme in a clinical setting, allowing you to actually work with the impressive range of imaging platforms available in the UMC Utrecht
  • The whole field of medical imaging, ranging from image acquisition physics to advanced image processing and analysis topics, is covered
  • You will benefit from the excellent international reputation and strong position of the Image Sciences Institute (ISI) and the Centre for Image Sciences (CIS) at UMC Utrecht in medical imaging research
  • As a student you will have the opportunity to carry out research projects at renowned international research groups and with selected industrial partners

YOUR BACKGROUND

Medical Imaging is intended for students who have a clear and specific interest in medical imaging, and ambition in research. You have a BSc in natural or exact sciences such as:

  • (applied) physics
  • (applied) mathematics
  • computer science
  • biomedical engineering
  • electrical engineering

CAREER IN MEDICAL IMAGING

As a graduate you can pursue a career at universities, in research institutes, or in industry in both theoretical and applied fields of medical imaging. We expect that many graduates will continue with a PhD project, either in Utrecht at our own PhD programme Medical Imaging or at another institute in the Netherlands or abroad. Having obtained a PhD degree, you can either continue in academia or switch to industry.
